Background
A public–private partnership for cardiac care
The Cardiothoracic Centre was established to address the critical gap in specialist cardiac surgical services in northern Nigeria. Operating within Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, the centre combines public healthcare infrastructure with private-sector clinical management.
Under the PPP framework, the government retains ownership of the facility and its clinical mandate, while CIBA manages day-to-day operations: staffing, equipment, service standards and clinical governance. This model ensures public accountability while delivering the operational rigour needed for complex cardiac surgery.
